A Simple Tidy-Up Turned Full Restoration

What started as a quick tidy-up has grown into a full-scale restoration project. The deeper we went, the more challenges and hidden details we uncovered—transforming this caravan into something truly special.

We’ve rebuilt it from the ground up, staying true to its original style while adding modern functionality for comfort and practicality.

Here’s what’s been done (all brand new):

• Chassis & Running Gear

  • Axle re-tensioned and aligned

  • New wheel bearings

  • New leaf springs

  • Rust removed, chassis sanded, treated, and painted

  • Drawbar adjusted and ride height corrected for modern cars (no more dragging or swaying)

  • New coupling and jockey wheel

• Exterior

  • Completely stripped to aluminium, resealed, painted in 2K, with period-style decals

  • New windows and rubbers

• Interior

  • Floor: treated ply, hardboard, and finished with commercial vinyl

  • Internal wall framing rebuilt

  • Full rewire with new RCD, 240V and 12V system

  • Acoustic insulation

  • New plywood linings

  • Redesigned layout: U-shaped lounge converts to a massive king bed + single (3 berth)

  • New Dunlop foam squabs with fresh upholstery

  • Compact sink for washing and brushing teeth

  • 12V water pump with 20L water tank

  • 12V diesel heater

• Power & Off-Grid Setup

  • 150W solar panel with deep cycle battery (simple 12V system for essential units)

• Other Details

  • Gas cooker removed (bring a BBQ instead!)

  • Countless extra hours and upgrades—some my wife doesn’t even know about yet!

This caravan has had hundreds of hours and a small fortune in materials poured into it. It’s safe to say we’ve over-capitalised—but the result is a beautifully restored, practical, and unique caravan ready for its next adventure.
